gourd pyrography_________________________________

There are a number of good reasons why you might consider pyrography on hardshell gourds.
First of all, unlike flat panel art, gourds can easily become useful vessels for a multitude of purposes.
Secondly, they have a much lower flashpoint than most woods so you can burn at much lower temperatures, which allows you to work for longer periods of time, or you can work much faster.
Also, the thickness of the shell actually allows for some relief carving techniques. The example shown here has had some of the "skin" of the gourd removed with a power carving tool to help with creating the illusion of a "hole" in the gourd.
